General Overview of Sestriere

What we have then is a ski area with a great, if not a particularly beautiful accommodation structure and ambiance and a lot of different grade slopes and surrounding villages on the same lift pass.

This ski area is known as "The Milky Way" and besides Sestriere it includes the villages of Sauze d’Oulx, Sansicario, Cesana, and Claviere and the French resort
of Montgenevre. This by the way is the very same pass that Hannibal took with his elephants when he and his marauding armies invaded Italy.

The skiing for the most part is best suited to those with either no experience or confidence and those with modicum quantities of same. Experts, in fact, may be wanting.

Nonetheless, this is a formidable ski area for most weekend warriors or those wanting to hone their existing skills. Sestriere has probably the greatest portion of the challenging skiing with, if memory serves, Sauze D' Oulx having the greatest portion of easy slopes.

The "Banchetta" is the steepest of Sestriere’s slopes. Here is where the most of the  world cup races were held.

Looking around the web, for some reason there is precious little information about Sestriere that is easy to find on the Web. Strange, that. Especially when one considers that the place is supposed to be promoting itself and the 2006 Olympics. The village, in fact, will host most of the athlete’s quarters and will be the center of most of the winter games. What would the brilliant Sgr. Agnelli have to say about that?
