Sauze D' Oulx
has, for some great number of years been, well, less than respected as a
major ski resort. But of late, all of that has definitely changed. The
resort has access to more than 400 kms of skiable terrain with skiing
suitable to all levels of experience from the absolute beginner to the
best of the best. And why not? After all many Italian ski champion has hailed from this region after all.
Sauze has been a haven for
the British skier for as long as I can remember. If it was they that
made it famous it was also the breed that gave the resort its former
less than illustrious tag. The winter Olympics will be based out of the
old city of Turin in 2006, and the entire "Milky Way" will play a huge
role in hosting the games, so during that time, accommodation just may
be a little difficult to come by. Sauze is about 100k form Turin and
from that city if you are in a car look for the signs saying Oulx. Turin
is by far your best airport but Milan and Geneva can also be used if
either of those airports are where you are headed. I remember
once witting that the nightlife in Sauze was almost legendary, and you
know what, I'm a lot older now so I am not sure that it still is. Anyone
know? Send me an email at
actone@activelifestyle.com
and I'll publish your comments. In fact if you have updated info on the
skiing and the accommodation please also let me know.
The skiing in the village of Sauze, if one does not venture onto the
slopes of the Milky Way is moderately extensive with 100km of
prepared pistes, mostly suitable for the holiday skier. Hey, isn't this
what most of us are. If snowboarding is your gig, Sauze also offers some
great terrain for that as well but to my knowledge there are no
snowboard parks set aside for the purpose. Accommodation is plentiful
and varied, and for the most part reasonably priced.
