La Thuile from The Gran Testa

Now we take the cable car at Les Suches a second time, but on this journey we will connect to the Gran Testa at 2379M. Here we will cruise red run number 17 until it reaches the departure point of the Cerellaz double chair lift. This takes us back to the Gran Testa area and from there we ski to the Belvedere chair lift and go to that peak at 2,600m.

Now we take the pleasant journey to France on the easy trail that runs alongside Bellecombe 1& 2 until you reach the start of the Chardonnet chair lift. This short but steep run and the lift that serves it, will take you to the 2400m high Col De La Traversette.

On the other side of La Traversette the ski area of La Rossiere stretches out in front of us. La Rossiere is easy to reach, and we can choose from a number of relatively easy slopes leading to the village. Upon reaching the village we are immediately thrilled by the impressive, sharp and massive shape of the Pourri mountain and the enormous shape of the "barracks" of Les Arcs 2,000. After exploring La Rossiere a bit we set out again for La Thuile. Again we have a choice of lifts to La Traversette. Once we go under the chair lift, enter into the new Bouquetin trail and then climb again using the Bellecombe 1 chairlift.

Again we are confronted by a pleasant choice. We can either enter Italy by crossing the Belvedere hill and using the new Bellecombe 2 lift, or ski down trail number 7, the Piccolo S. Bernardo hill. This is a fantastic run - about 11 kms. long and more suitable to "distance runners" than sprinters. There are sections along this run by the way that hold good snow until late June. Lets interrupt the run at about the middle of the number 7 adventure to altitude using the Fourolaz 2 seater chair lift. Here try the number 8 route, a beautiful and enthaustic red run, or take the black 25 that arrives from Belvedere. This by the way is one of the many race routes that last summer received approval for national and international competitions.

Now we return to lucky number 7 which takes us gently to the center of La Thuile. On skis! Surely you will not be too busy to extend your journey of discovery with us for another day, for even though we have skied our limit for today, we still have not skied half the hill, or sampled half the food.
